Rehearsal

We decided we didn't need a rehearsal because the only action that is really taking place is running. When we do have other parts I believe the actor we have chosen will be able to improvise to a very high standard. We also decided that when filming we will do the shot a couple of times to allows us a varied  performance and allow us to have a bigger option when in the editing suit.

filming delayed

Graham and me were planning on filming our title sequence in the Christmas period but due to snow we have had to delay this because it will be very difficult to run in the snow in our location and it wont give the same effect as snow sometimes can be portrayed as fun and relaxing rather than scary. It looks as though we will probably be filming when we return the following weekend.

Actor

Here is a picture of the actor we have chosen. Her name is Charlotte Edmondson and is currently doing drama. We think she is the perfect person for our title sequence and believe she will do a great job.

Later on I will upload some pictures of our actors. We have officially chosen our main actor but we also have two back up actors incase she for some reason can't do it. The two remaining actors are our reserved actors which I believe will also do a good job but don't really fit the image I have in my head.
For our title sequence we don't have any dialogue in it which means a script is not needed. We plan however to give our actor the storyboard which will allow her to see the ideas we have and allow her to add hers into it also.
I started to do a script but decided to scrap it because all the actions that needed were just running. I thought the storyboard would be better for the actor to work from.

Storyboard

Below are the pictures of my storyboard. I originally was going to produce it on the computer but then decided it was a lot easier to draw it then scan it into the computer and upload it as a picture. In the blue pen on the storyboard are the shots but in the green pen at the top of the frame is the music/sounds that are most likely to be used when editing. I wanted to do this as it would help us when filming to know what sounds could be used when editing.

When scanning the storyboard i realized that because i did it in pencil it didn't show up to well. But you can still see it slightly. But you sadly cant see the coloured pen which i used.

Health and safety

Below is a health and safety table, it highlights all the possible accidents that could go wrong and how to avoid them. This is very important as doing this will hopefully allow our filming to go smoothly without any issues.

Target Audience

I organised a group of people together to allow me to ask them about the genre supernatural horror and what there views on the ones I looked at were. At first I planned on asking them in person and film them talking however I could never find the right time to allow me to do this as some of the people worked or are at school. I then set up a Facebook group that allowed me to join anybody I wanted to it. I posted the links onto the group and then posted the questions. This way might not be as effective than asking them in person but the method still worked and was less time consuming.
I asked them the questions below for the shining...

1) Have you seen the shining?( did you like the film, was it scary).
2) Do you think its effective no characters are shown?.
3) What do you think is going to happen next?
4) Do you think this title sequence is scary?

1) No I haven't seen the Shining.
2) I think its a bit boring that its just a car.
3) I think the car is going to go into the hotel .
4) I don't think its scary because its a little boring.
Alicia brace,19,student

1) No
2) Yes, it makes me think about where the car is going and why its there.
3) I think the car is going to the ski resort place.
4) Its not scary but it builds suspense.
Katie Sampson,16,student

1) No.
2) No. Over a relatively long title sequence the anonymity made it feel bland.

3) The remote setting usually means something bad.
4) The music adds the atmosphere of fear rather than the visuals for me.
Jonathan Fox, 18, student

1) No.
2) Makes me wonder who is in the car and where its going.
3) I think we find out whos in the car and why they are there.
4) Not prticulary but the music makes you think something scary is going to happen.
Abi Smith, 14,School girl

I then asked a slightly different batch of questions for the Changeling title sequence as its slightly different.

1) Anybody seen The changeling?
2) What do you think of the characters?
3) What does the characters make you feel?
4) What do you think the titles show in what the film is about?
5) Are these titles scarier than the shining. Why?
6) Which title sequence is better as a super natural horror?

1) No.
2) The three pushing the car are seen to be friendly with the woman and the kid annoyingly preppy.
3) I like the group of three, they make me feel part of their family while watching.
4) No idea but this works as it allows the viewer to keep guessing.
5) More shock tactics rather than real scare.
6) The shining as it reveals a lot less through anonymity.
Jonathan Fox, 18, Student

1) No.
2) They seem ordinary like a normal family.
3) They make me feel normal. Don't have an effect on me.
4) A family on holiday. If you didn't read content or watch film you would think its a comedy or an action.
5) Its more tense than the shining but not scarier.
6) The shining because no characters a re shown it makes you think more because of it and the music is very scary.
Abi Smith,15,School girl

Location

We have officially decided that this is our location for the title sequence. Its a great place to film because its wide enough to allow the runner to get through but small enough to allow it to seem isolated in the title sequence. Its also good because its a public alley way which means we don't need to get permission to use it. However at the same time it would be a good idea to ask or check because members of the public will walk up this way so we need to make sure they don't interrupt us when filming.

We now need to decide on lighting because we are planning on filming it when its quite dark and we need to decide how we are planning on lighting it up but at the same time keeping it scary and mysterious.

Timeplan

This is a screen shot of my time plan. I am currently doing it on Microsoft express on the computer but its also connected up with my iphone which means I can edit it as I go along a lot easier. I have colour coordinated everything as its easier to see and it means I can see easily what needs doing. I have also set up reminders that tell me when that section is due or if I need to do it.!

Time plan on Microsoft outlook.

This is also a screen shot but shows you that I have set up reminders for the calender.

shotlist

Here is a table of all the shots we are planning on using and why we are using them.

Shot 1
Establishing shot...showing the location of events. This will show the ally way and allow the audience to see where its set.
Shot 2
medium close up...Of woman running. Medium close up of her top half of body which allows the audience to begin to be part of the running girl.
Shot 3
over the shoulder...Of the girl running. It shows her movement and also at the same time shows where she is going. May allow the audience to think something is following her.
Shot 4
long shot...Of the girl in her full costume running as it flows. The long shot will also show the background which will show her situation and where she's running to.

Shot 5
Close up of feet (stepping into something/puddle?)...The close up of her feet stepping in the puddle shows she's in a rush and shows she doesn't care about if she gets wet.
Shot 6
All close ups of bottom half of body but different angles...setting the pace of her running (Jump cuts) The  shots are of her legs, feet and how her dress moves as she runs.

Shot 7
extreme close-up of eyes (non diegetic music- all silent)...shows her emotion and her choice about going left or right in the alley way.

Shot 8
Arc of girl. Quite fast. Shows confusion...shows the confusion she is facing. Arc is half way up her body. Low angle looking up at her face.
Shot 9
Zoom of direction heading...Allows you to see the choice she faces

Shot 10
Zoom out of girl running. Like establishing shot but see her. (See the building being used?)...Shows where she’s going. The size of the area. Tension-where is she going?
Shot 11
cut of long shot from other side...shows the location (approaching) building.
Shot 12
Long takes...shows time. The pace has slowed down. Creates tension. Still of her running
Shot 13
Long shot of her and building- location...Can create questions. She is running towards this building.
Shot 14
Zoom in on girl...Gives the audience a glimpse of the character. Zoom on her face.shoulders.
Shot 15
Tilt up to see building. (Closer to building the bigger it looks)...Shows the origin
Shot 16
Aerial/high angle shot. (Use tripod or tree)...Makes audience feel like something is watching her
Shot 17
cut to mid close up...setting up next shot
Shot 18
match on action- mid shot of walking through door...entering the unknown

Shot 19
match on action-mid shot of other side walking through door...entering the unknown
Shot 20
Dramatically finish. BOOM. Black screen.

Location

Here are the pictures of the location of an alley way in Bromsgrove.
The first two pictures are the same area but form different angles. The second one shows that the alley way goes along way down. It would be perfect for running. The third picture is where the alley carries on. Its slightly bigger which would be suitable for the camera and any lighting needed. The final picture at the bottom is another view from the alley way. That path leads into the town but is useful for our idea because we want a girl who has to decide on two different ways. Overall this location is perfect and suitable for our idea.

Tester

Testing mail!

I sent this from my phone. I was testing it to see if it works. Looks like it does indeed. This now allows me to post on the go. Weather I'm on the bus or even at home. Its a lot easier especially if I do not have access to a computer.
