Target Audience

I organised a group of people together to allow me to ask them about the genre supernatural horror and what there views on the ones I looked at were. At first I planned on asking them in person and film them talking however I could never find the right time to allow me to do this as some of the people worked or are at school. I then set up a Facebook group that allowed me to join anybody I wanted to it. I posted the links onto the group and then posted the questions. This way might not be as effective than asking them in person but the method still worked and was less time consuming.
I asked them the questions below for the shining...

1) Have you seen the shining?( did you like the film, was it scary).
2) Do you think its effective no characters are shown?.
3) What do you think is going to happen next?
4) Do you think this title sequence is scary?

1) No I haven't seen the Shining.
2) I think its a bit boring that its just a car.
3) I think the car is going to go into the hotel .
4) I don't think its scary because its a little boring.
Alicia brace,19,student

1) No
2) Yes, it makes me think about where the car is going and why its there.
3) I think the car is going to the ski resort place.
4) Its not scary but it builds suspense.
Katie Sampson,16,student

1) No.
2) No. Over a relatively long title sequence the anonymity made it feel bland.

3) The remote setting usually means something bad.
4) The music adds the atmosphere of fear rather than the visuals for me.
Jonathan Fox, 18, student

1) No.
2) Makes me wonder who is in the car and where its going.
3) I think we find out whos in the car and why they are there.
4) Not prticulary but the music makes you think something scary is going to happen.

I then asked a slightly different batch of questions for the Changeling title sequence as its slightly different.

1) Anybody seen The changeling?
2) What do you think of the characters?
3) What does the characters make you feel?
4) What do you think the titles show in what the film is about?
5) Are these titles scarier than the shining. Why?
6) Which title sequence is better as a super natural horror?

1) No.
2) The three pushing the car are seen to be friendly with the woman and the kid annoyingly preppy.
3) I like the group of three, they make me feel part of their family while watching.
4) No idea but this works as it allows the viewer to keep guessing.
5) More shock tactics rather than real scare.
6) The shining as it reveals a lot less through anonymity.
Jonathan Fox, 18, Student

1) No.
2) They seem ordinary like a normal family.
3) They make me feel normal. Don't have an effect on me.
4) A family on holiday. If you didn't read content or watch film you would think its a comedy or an action.
5) Its more tense than the shining but not scarier.
6) The shining because no characters a re shown it makes you think more because of it and the music is very scary.
Abi Smith,15,School girl
